The Illinois Women’s Golf Association (IWGA) is pleased to announce the winner of their Julia H. Dodds Award for 2019. Ali Schrock of Pontiac, Illinois is our award winner and she will receive the $2,000 award, which is directed to her college choice of Illinois State University to assist in her educational expenses. The award criteria for selection include: Character, Scholarship, Leadership and Sportsmanship. Ali exemplifies all these qualities and is an outstanding young woman. She has maintained a perfect grade point average through high school, while being active in the high school band, Key Club, volunteering in community projects, and captain of the girl’s high school golf team. Ali stated in her application that her father always told her that success in live would be determined by whether she contributed more to society that what she received. In reviewing her resume, she has certainly followed her father’s advice. One story about Ali definitely defined her character. In the fall of 2017, Ali won the IHSA Class 1A Individual Championship, and she was hoping to repeat that performance in the fall of 2018. Instead, her younger sister, Dani Grace won the title and Ali placed third. All who witnessed the end of the tournament told of Ali’s true joy for her sister’s victory, and never displaying her disappointment in placing third at the tournament. The IWGA, founded in 1933, is an all-volunteer organization devoted to advancing golf opportunities for the women and girls of Illinois. We conduct state championship tournaments and through fundraising to support charitable contributions to individuals and organizations that embody the spirit of amateur golf. In 78 years the organization has given over $1,000,000 dollars back to individuals and organizations.
